How To Install libdvdread8 on Kali Linux
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install libdvdread8 on Kali Linux.
What is libdvdread8
libdvdread8 is:
libdvdread provides the functionality that is required to access many DVDs. It parses IFO files, reads NAV-blocks, and performs CSS authentication and descrambling.
libdvdread probes for libdvdcss at runtime and if found, will use it to decrypt sections of the DVD as necessary. libdvdcss needs to be installed from third-party repositories (see README.css), it’s not included in Debian.
There are three methods to install libdvdread8 on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install libdvdread8 Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get updateAfter updating apt database, We can install libdvdread8 using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install libdvdread8Install libdvdread8 Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

To uninstall only the libdvdread8 package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove libdvdread8Remove libdvdread8 Configurations and Data
To remove libdvdread8 configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge libdvdread8Remove libdvdread8 configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
