How To Install libdumbnet-dev on Kali Linux
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install libdumbnet-dev on Kali Linux.
What is libdumbnet-dev
libdumbnet-dev is:
libdumbnet provides a simplified, portable interface to several low-level networking routines, including
- network address manipulation
- kernel arp(4) cache and route(4) table lookup and manipulation
- network firewalling (Ip filter, ipfw, ipchains, pdf, …)
- network interface lookup and manipulation
- raw IP packet and Ethernet frame transmission
libdumbnet is known as libdnet in other distributions, but was renamed in Debian in favour of the older DECnet library ’libdnet'.
This package contains the static library and the C header files.
There are three methods to install libdumbnet-dev on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install libdumbnet-dev Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get updateAfter updating apt database, We can install libdumbnet-dev using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install libdumbnet-devInstall libdumbnet-dev Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt updateAfter updating apt database, We can install libdumbnet-dev using apt by running the following command:

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude -y install libdumbnet-devHow To Uninstall libdumbnet-dev on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the libdumbnet-dev package we can use the following command:

To uninstall libdumbnet-dev and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove libdumbnet-devRemove libdumbnet-dev Configurations and Data
To remove libdumbnet-dev configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
