How To Install libcrcutil-dev on Debian 9
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install libcrcutil-dev
on Debian 9.
What is libcrcutil-dev
libcrcutil-dev is:
Crcutil library provides efficient implementation of CRC algorithms. It includes reference implementation of a novel Multiword CRC algorithm invented by Andrew Kadatch and Bob Jenkins in early 2007. The new algorithm is heavily tuned towards modern Intel and AMD processors and is substantially faster than almost all other software CRC algorithms.
Included whitepaper describes the details of Multiword CRC algorithm as well as other algorithms and CRC manipulation routines implemented by crcutil library.
Crcutil library computes:
- Hardware-assisted CRC32C: 0.13 (Nehalem) CPU cycles per byte.
- 64-bit and smaller CRCs: 1.0 (Nehalem) - 1.2 (Core) CPU cycles per byte.
- 128-bit CRCs: 1.7 CPU cycles per byte.
Since computational speed of 64-bit CRCs is identical to 32-bit and 16-bit, the use of crcutil library enables widespread use of more reliable 64-bit CRCs instead of 32-bit ones.
As a bonus, crcutil also implements a number of useful CRC “tricks” (e.g. computation of CRC of concatenated blocks of data of known length and CRC without touching actual data).
This package provides development files.
There are three methods to install libcrcutil-dev
on Debian 9. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install libcrcutil-dev Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install libcrcutil-dev
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install libcrcutil-dev
Install libcrcutil-dev Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install libcrcutil-dev
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install libcrcutil-dev
Install libcrcutil-dev Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install libcrcutil-dev
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install libcrcutil-dev
How To Uninstall libcrcutil-dev on Debian 9
To uninstall only the libcrcutil-dev
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove libcrcutil-dev
Uninstall libcrcutil-dev And Its Dependencies
To uninstall libcrcutil-dev
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 9, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove libcrcutil-dev
Remove libcrcutil-dev Configurations and Data
To remove libcrcutil-dev
configuration and data from Debian 9 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge libcrcutil-dev
Remove libcrcutil-dev configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove libcrcutil-dev
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge libcrcutil-dev
Dependencies
