In this tutorial we learn how to install libcoap2 on Kali Linux.

What is libcoap2

libcoap2 is:

Lightweight application-protocol for devices that are constrained their resources such as computing power, RF range, memory, bandwidth, or network packet sizes. This protocol, CoAP, is developed in the IETF working group “CoRE”, http://6lowapp.net and was standardized in RFC 7252.

The libcoap library v2 has DTLS functionality included based on TLS functions provided by OpenSSL in addition to the previous API version.

This package contains the various libcoap libraries based on API v2 with and without DTLS functionality.

There are three methods to install libcoap2 on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install libcoap2 Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install libcoap2 using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install libcoap2

Install libcoap2 Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install libcoap2 using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install libcoap2

Install libcoap2 Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install libcoap2 using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install libcoap2

How To Uninstall libcoap2 on Kali Linux

To uninstall only the libcoap2 package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove libcoap2

Uninstall libcoap2 And Its Dependencies

To uninstall libcoap2 and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove libcoap2

Remove libcoap2 Configurations and Data

To remove libcoap2 configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge libcoap2

Remove libcoap2 configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove libcoap2 configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge libcoap2
