How To Install libcitygml-dev on Ubuntu 18.04

In this tutorial we learn how to install libcitygml-dev on Ubuntu 18.04.
What is libcitygml-dev
libcitygml-dev is:
libcitygml is a small and easy to use open source C++ library for parsing CityGML files in such a way that data can be easily exploited by 3D rendering applications (geometry data are tesselated and optimized for rendering during parsing). For instance, it can be used to develop readers of CityGML files in many 3D based applications (OpenGL, OpenSceneGraph, …) Most metadata are not lost, they are available through a per-node hashmap.
CityGML (City Geography Markup Language) is an XML-based schema for the modelling and exchange of georeferenced 3D city and landscape models that is quickly being adopted on an international level.
This package contains develop files: static and header files of libcitygml.
There are three methods to install libcitygml-dev on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install libcitygml-dev Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install libcitygml-dev using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install libcitygml-dev
Install libcitygml-dev Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install libcitygml-dev using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install libcitygml-dev
Install libcitygml-dev Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install libcitygml-dev using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install libcitygml-dev
How To Uninstall libcitygml-dev on Ubuntu 18.04
To uninstall only the libcitygml-dev package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove libcitygml-dev
Uninstall libcitygml-dev And Its Dependencies
To uninstall libcitygml-dev and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove libcitygml-dev
Remove libcitygml-dev Configurations and Data
To remove libcitygml-dev configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge libcitygml-dev
Remove libcitygml-dev configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove libcitygml-dev configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge libcitygml-dev
