How To Install libcglm-dev on Debian 12
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install libcglm-dev
on Debian 12.
What is libcglm-dev
libcglm-dev is:
cglm is an optimized 3D math library written in C99 (compatible with C89). It is based on the OpenGL Shading Language (GLSL) specification and similar to the original glm library except this library is written in C. It uses the same header-only approach like glm but also supports pre-compield function calls
Features:
- scalar and simd (sse, avx, neon…) optimizations
- option to use different clipspaces e.g. Left Handed, Zero-to-One… (currrently right handed negative-one is default)
- array API and struct API, you can use arrays or structs.
- general purpose matrix operations (mat4, mat3)
- chain matrix multiplication (square only)
- general purpose vector operations (cross, dot, rotate, proj, angle…)
- affine transformations
- matrix decomposition (extract rotation, scaling factor)
- optimized affine transform matrices (mul, rigid-body inverse)
- camera (lookat)
- projections (ortho, perspective)
- quaternions
- euler angles / yaw-pitch-roll to matrix
- extract euler angles
- inline or pre-compiled function call
- frustum (extract view frustum planes, corners…)
- bounding box (AABB in Frustum (culling), crop, merge…)
- bounding sphere
- project, unproject
- easing functions
- curves
- curve interpolation helpers (SMC, deCasteljau…)
- helpers to convert cglm types to Apple’s simd library to pass cglm types to Metal GL without packing them on both sides
- ray intersection helpers
- and others…

There are three methods to install libcglm-dev
on Debian 12. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install libcglm-dev Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install libcglm-dev
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install libcglm-dev
Install libcglm-dev Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install libcglm-dev
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install libcglm-dev
Install libcglm-dev Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install libcglm-dev
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install libcglm-dev
How To Uninstall libcglm-dev on Debian 12
To uninstall only the libcglm-dev
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove libcglm-dev
Uninstall libcglm-dev And Its Dependencies
To uninstall libcglm-dev
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 12, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove libcglm-dev
Remove libcglm-dev Configurations and Data
To remove libcglm-dev
configuration and data from Debian 12 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge libcglm-dev
Remove libcglm-dev configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove libcglm-dev
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge libcglm-dev
Dependencies
libcglm-dev have the following dependencies:
