How To Install libbmusb-dev on Ubuntu 18.04
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install libbmusb-dev on Ubuntu 18.04.
What is libbmusb-dev
libbmusb-dev is:
bmusb is a userspace driver for Blackmagic’s USB3 series of video capture and playback cards (although only the capture part is currently supported), in particular the Intensity Shuttle (HDMI) and UltraStudio SDI cards. These are not currently served by Blackmagic’s own Linux drivers.
bmusb is not API- or ABI-compatible with Blackmagic’s drivers.
This package contains the development files and static library.
There are three methods to install libbmusb-dev on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install libbmusb-dev using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install libbmusb-dev
How To Uninstall libbmusb-dev on Ubuntu 18.04
To uninstall only the libbmusb-dev package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove libbmusb-dev

To uninstall libbmusb-dev and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove libbmusb-dev
Remove libbmusb-dev Configurations and Data
To remove libbmusb-dev configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge libbmusb-dev
Remove libbmusb-dev configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove libbmusb-dev configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge libbmusb-dev
