How To Install libblosc-dev on Ubuntu 18.04

What is libblosc-dev
libblosc-dev is:
Blosc is a high performance compressor optimized for binary data. It has been designed to transmit data to the processor cache faster than the traditional, non-compressed, direct memory fetch approach via a memcpy() OS call. Blosc is meant not only to reduce the size of large datasets on-disk or in-memory, but also to accelerate memory-bound computations.
It uses the blocking technique to reduce activity on the memory bus as much as possible. In short, this technique works by dividing datasets in blocks that are small enough to fit in caches of modern processors and perform compression / decompression there. It also leverages, if available, SIMD instructions (SSE2) and multi-threading capabilities of CPUs, in order to accelerate the compression / decompression process to a maximum.
This package contains the development files required to build programs against Blosc.
There are three methods to install libblosc-dev on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install libblosc-dev Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install libblosc-dev using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install libblosc-dev
Install libblosc-dev Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install libblosc-dev using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install libblosc-dev
Install libblosc-dev Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install libblosc-dev using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install libblosc-dev
How To Uninstall libblosc-dev on Ubuntu 18.04
To uninstall only the libblosc-dev package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove libblosc-dev
Uninstall libblosc-dev And Its Dependencies
To uninstall libblosc-dev and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove libblosc-dev
Remove libblosc-dev Configurations and Data
To remove libblosc-dev configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge libblosc-dev
Remove libblosc-dev configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove libblosc-dev configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge libblosc-dev
