How To Install libavro-dev on Ubuntu 18.04

In this tutorial we learn how to install libavro-dev
on Ubuntu 18.04.
What is libavro-dev
libavro-dev is:
Apache Avro is a data serialization system. Avro provides rich data structures; a binary data format; and a container file format, to store Avro-encoded data persistently.
This package provides the “avro-c” implementation of Apache Avro in C. The C implementation supports:
- binary encoding/decoding of all primitive and complex data types
- storage to an Avro Object Container File
- schema resolution, promotion and projection
- validating and non-validating mode for writing Avro data
The C implementation of Avro lacks RPC support.
This package contains the development files.
There are three methods to install libavro-dev
on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install libavro-dev Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install libavro-dev
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install libavro-dev
Install libavro-dev Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install libavro-dev
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install libavro-dev
Install libavro-dev Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install libavro-dev
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install libavro-dev
How To Uninstall libavro-dev on Ubuntu 18.04
To uninstall only the libavro-dev
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove libavro-dev
Uninstall libavro-dev And Its Dependencies
To uninstall libavro-dev
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove libavro-dev
Remove libavro-dev Configurations and Data
To remove libavro-dev
configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge libavro-dev
Remove libavro-dev configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove libavro-dev

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge libavro-dev
