How To Install libattr1-dev on Debian 9
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install libattr1-dev on Debian 9.
What is libattr1-dev
libattr1-dev is:
attr-dev contains the libraries and header files needed to develop programs which make use of extended attributes. For Linux programs, the documented system call API is the recommended interface, but an SGI IRIX compatibility interface is also provided.
Currently only ext2, ext3, JFS and XFS support extended attributes. The SGI IRIX compatibility API built above the Linux system calls is used by programs such as xfsdump(8), xfsrestore(8) and xfs_fsr(8).
There are three methods to install libattr1-dev on Debian 9. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install libattr1-dev Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install libattr1-dev using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install libattr1-dev
Install libattr1-dev Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install libattr1-dev using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install libattr1-dev
Install libattr1-dev Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install libattr1-dev using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install libattr1-dev
How To Uninstall libattr1-dev on Debian 9
To uninstall only the libattr1-dev package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove libattr1-dev
Uninstall libattr1-dev And Its Dependencies
To uninstall libattr1-dev and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 9, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove libattr1-dev
Remove libattr1-dev Configurations and Data
To remove libattr1-dev configuration and data from Debian 9 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge libattr1-dev
Remove libattr1-dev configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove libattr1-dev configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
