How To Install libarb on Ubuntu 18.04
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install libarb on Ubuntu 18.04.
What is libarb
libarb is:
ARB is a graphical suite of tools for sequence database handling and data analysis. A central database of processed (aligned) sequences and any type of additional data linked to the sequence entries is structured according to phylogeny or other user-defined criteria.
The ARB project (from the Latin “arbor”, a tree) is a joint initiative of the Lehrstuhl fuer Mikrobiologie http://www.mikro.biologie.tu-muenchen.de/ and the Lehrstuhl fuer Rechnertechnik und Rechnerorganisation http://wwwbode.informatik.tu-muenchen.de/ of the Technical University of Munich.
This package provides the dynamic libraries which are used by ARB.
There are three methods to install libarb on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install libarb Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install libarb using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install libarb
Install libarb Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install libarb using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install libarb
Install libarb Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install libarb using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install libarb
How To Uninstall libarb on Ubuntu 18.04
To uninstall only the libarb package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove libarb
Uninstall libarb And Its Dependencies
To uninstall libarb and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove libarb
Remove libarb Configurations and Data
To remove libarb configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge libarb
Remove libarb configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove libarb configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge libarb
