How To Install l2tpns on Debian 9
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install l2tpns
on Debian 9.
What is l2tpns
l2tpns is:
l2tpns is a daemon designed to terminate large volumes of layer 2 tunnelling protocol (RFC 2661: L2TP) sessions.
The daemon supports up to 65535 sessions plus features such as rate limiting, walled garden, usage accounting, and clustering (for both load-sharing and redundancy).
Note that only the LNS side of the L2TP protocol is implemented, for a more complete L2TP implementation see the l2tpd package.
There are three methods to install l2tpns
on Debian 9. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install l2tpns Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install l2tpns
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install l2tpns

Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install l2tpns
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install l2tpns
Install l2tpns Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install l2tpns
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install l2tpns
How To Uninstall l2tpns on Debian 9
To uninstall only the l2tpns
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove l2tpns
Uninstall l2tpns And Its Dependencies
To uninstall l2tpns
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 9, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove l2tpns
Remove l2tpns Configurations and Data
To remove l2tpns
configuration and data from Debian 9 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge l2tpns
Remove l2tpns configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
