How To Install kwin-wayland on Kali Linux
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install kwin-wayland on Kali Linux.
What is kwin-wayland
kwin-wayland is:
KWin (pronounced as one syllable “kwin”) is the window manager for the KDE Plasma Desktop. It gives you complete control over your windows, making sure they’re not in the way but aid you in your task. It paints the window decoration, the bar on top of every window with (configurable) buttons like close, maximize and minimize. It also handles placing of windows and switching between them.
This package provides the wayland version, which is still a work in progress project, and is available as a PREVIEW release. Don’t expect the same stability as with the x11 version.
There are three methods to install kwin-wayland on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install kwin-wayland Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get updateAfter updating apt database, We can install kwin-wayland using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install kwin-waylandInstall kwin-wayland Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt updateAfter updating apt database, We can install kwin-wayland using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install kwin-waylandInstall kwin-wayland Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude updateAfter updating apt database, We can install kwin-wayland using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install kwin-waylandHow To Uninstall kwin-wayland on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the kwin-wayland package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove kwin-waylandUninstall kwin-wayland And Its Dependencies
To uninstall kwin-wayland and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove kwin-waylandRemove kwin-wayland Configurations and Data
To remove kwin-wayland configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge kwin-waylandRemove kwin-wayland configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove kwin-wayland configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge kwin-waylandDependencies
