How To Install kmplayer on Kali Linux

Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install kmplayer on Kali Linux.

What is kmplayer

kmplayer is:

KMPlayer is a simple frontend for MPlayer/FFMpeg/Phonon.

Some features:

• play DVD/VCD movies (from file or url and from a video device)
• embed inside konqueror (movie is played inside konqueror)
• embed inside khtml (movie playback inside a html page)
• Movie recording using mencoder (part of the mplayer package)
• No video during recording, but you can always open a new window and play it
• Broadcasting, http streaming, using ffserver/ffmpeg
• For TV sources, you need v4lctl (part of the xawtv package)

There are three methods to install kmplayer on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install kmplayer Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install kmplayer using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install kmplayer

Install kmplayer Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install kmplayer using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install kmplayer

Install kmplayer Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install kmplayer using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install kmplayer

How To Uninstall kmplayer on Kali Linux

To uninstall only the kmplayer package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove kmplayer

Uninstall kmplayer And Its Dependencies

To uninstall kmplayer and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove kmplayer

Remove kmplayer Configurations and Data

To remove kmplayer configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge kmplayer
