Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install kinit on Kali Linux.

What is kinit

kinit is:

kdeinit is a process launcher somewhat similar to the famous init used for booting UNIX.

It launches processes by forking and then loading a dynamic library which should contain a ‘kdemain(…)’ function.

Using kdeinit to launch KDE applications makes starting a typical KDE applications 2.5 times faster (100ms instead of 250ms on a P-III 500) It reduces memory consumption by approx. 350Kb per application.

There are three methods to install kinit on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install kinit Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install kinit using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install kinit

Install kinit Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install kinit using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install kinit

Install kinit Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install kinit using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install kinit

How To Uninstall kinit on Kali Linux

To uninstall only the kinit package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove kinit

Uninstall kinit And Its Dependencies

To uninstall kinit and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove kinit

Remove kinit Configurations and Data

To remove kinit configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge kinit
