How To Install kicad-libraries on Ubuntu 22.04
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install kicad-libraries
on Ubuntu 22.04.
What is kicad-libraries
kicad-libraries is:
This package contains dependencies on the component libraries (schematics and footprints), and also on the templates that are used in KiCad.
If you prefer to control the installation of the dependent packages
- kicad-footprint
- kicad-symbols
- kicad-templates you should not install kicad-libraries and install one or more of the above packages.
Note! 3D model libraries are not set as a dependency due the installation size of this package, if you want to use the 3D models you need to install kicad-packages3d separately.
There are three methods to install kicad-libraries
on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install kicad-libraries Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install kicad-libraries
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install kicad-libraries
Install kicad-libraries Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install kicad-libraries
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install kicad-libraries
Install kicad-libraries Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install kicad-libraries
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install kicad-libraries
How To Uninstall kicad-libraries on Ubuntu 22.04
To uninstall only the kicad-libraries
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove kicad-libraries
Uninstall kicad-libraries And Its Dependencies
To uninstall kicad-libraries
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 22.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove kicad-libraries
Remove kicad-libraries Configurations and Data
To remove kicad-libraries
configuration and data from Ubuntu 22.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge kicad-libraries
Remove kicad-libraries configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove kicad-libraries
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge kicad-libraries
