How To Install keepassx on Kali Linux
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install keepassx on Kali Linux.
What is keepassx
keepassx is:
KeePassX is a free/open-source password manager or safe which helps you to manage your passwords in a secure way. You can put all your passwords in one database, which is locked with one master key or a key-disk. So you only have to remember one single master password or insert the key-disk to unlock the whole database. The databases are encrypted using the algorithms AES or Twofish.
In contrast to KeePassXC (package keepassxc), the development pace of KeePassX has slowed down. It has less features, and uses an outdated version of the Qt widget. If you do not know whether you should install keepassx or keepassxc, install keepassxc instead!
There are three methods to install keepassx on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install keepassx Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get updateAfter updating apt database, We can install keepassx using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install keepassxInstall keepassx Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt updateAfter updating apt database, We can install keepassx using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install keepassxInstall keepassx Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude updateAfter updating apt database, We can install keepassx using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install keepassxHow To Uninstall keepassx on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the keepassx package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove keepassxUninstall keepassx And Its Dependencies
To uninstall keepassx and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove keepassxRemove keepassx Configurations and Data
To remove keepassx configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge keepassxRemove keepassx configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove keepassx configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge keepassxDependencies
