In this tutorial we learn how to install kdiff3
on Debian 10.
What is kdiff3
kdiff3 is:
KDiff3 compares two or three input files and shows the differences line by line and character by character. It provides an automatic merge facility and an integrated editor for comfortable solving of merge conflicts. KDiff3 allows recursive directory comparison and merging as well.
This is the standard version of KDiff3, highly integrated into KDE. It has got KIO support (allowing for remote access of files and direct access to files in compressed archives) and integration into konqueror’s context menu. There’s also a stripped-down version called kdiff3-qt not depending on the KDE libraries.
There are three methods to install kdiff3
on Debian 10. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude

After updating apt database, We can install kdiff3
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install kdiff3
How To Uninstall kdiff3 on Debian 10
To uninstall only the kdiff3
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove kdiff3
Uninstall kdiff3 And Its Dependencies
To uninstall kdiff3
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 10, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove kdiff3
Remove kdiff3 Configurations and Data
To remove kdiff3
configuration and data from Debian 10 we can use the following command:
