How To Install kafkacat on Kali Linux
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install kafkacat
on Kali Linux.
What is kafkacat
kafkacat is:
kafkacat is a generic non-JVM producer and consumer for Apache Kafka 0.8, think of it as a netcat for Kafka.
In producer mode kafkacat reads messages from stdin, delimited with a configurable delimiter and produces them to the provided Kafka cluster, topic and partition. In consumer mode kafkacat reads messages from a topic and partition and prints them to stdout using the configured message delimiter.
kafkacat also features a Metadata list mode to display the current state of the Kafka cluster and its topics and partitions.
There are three methods to install kafkacat
on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install kafkacat Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install kafkacat
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install kafkacat
Install kafkacat Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install kafkacat
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install kafkacat
Install kafkacat Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install kafkacat
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install kafkacat
How To Uninstall kafkacat on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the kafkacat
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove kafkacat
Uninstall kafkacat And Its Dependencies
To uninstall kafkacat
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove kafkacat
Remove kafkacat Configurations and Data
To remove kafkacat
configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge kafkacat
Remove kafkacat configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove kafkacat
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge kafkacat
