How To Install john on Kali Linux
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install john on Kali Linux.
What is john
john is:
John the Ripper is a tool designed to help systems administrators to find weak (easy to guess or crack through brute force) passwords, and even automatically mail users warning them about it, if it is desired.
Besides several crypt(3) password hash types most commonly found on various Unix flavors, supported out of the box are Kerberos AFS and Windows NT/2000/XP/2003 LM hashes, plus several more with contributed patches.
There are three methods to install john on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install john Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get updateAfter updating apt database, We can install john using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install johnInstall john Using apt

To remove john configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge johnRemove john configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
