How To Install john-data on Kali Linux

on Kali Linux.
What is john-data
john-data is:
John the Ripper is a tool designed to help systems administrators to find weak (easy to guess or crack through brute force) passwords, and even automatically mail users warning them about it, if it is desired.
This package contains architecture-independent character sets usable by john and architecture-independent scripts.
There are three methods to install john-data
on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install john-data Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install john-data
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install john-data

Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install john-data
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install john-data
Install john-data Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install john-data
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install john-data
How To Uninstall john-data on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the john-data
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove john-data
Uninstall john-data And Its Dependencies
To uninstall john-data
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove john-data
Remove john-data Configurations and Data
To remove john-data
configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge john-data
