How To Install jemboss on Ubuntu 22.04

What is jemboss
jemboss is:
EMBOSS is a free Open Source software analysis package specially developed for the needs of the molecular biology (e.g. EMBnet) user community. The software automatically copes with data in a variety of formats and even allows transparent retrieval of sequence data from the web. Also, as extensive libraries are provided with the package, it is a platform to allow other scientists to develop and release software in true open source spirit. EMBOSS also integrates a range of currently available packages and tools for sequence analysis into a seamless whole. EMBOSS breaks the historical trend towards commercial software packages.
Jemboss is a Graphical User Interface (GUI) to EMBOSS, the European Molecular Biology Open Software Suite. It is part of the EMBOSS distribution.
There are three methods to install jemboss on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install jemboss Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install jemboss using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install jemboss
Install jemboss Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install jemboss using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install jemboss
Install jemboss Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install jemboss using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install jemboss
How To Uninstall jemboss on Ubuntu 22.04
To uninstall only the jemboss package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove jemboss
Uninstall jemboss And Its Dependencies
To uninstall jemboss and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 22.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove jemboss
Remove jemboss Configurations and Data
To remove jemboss configuration and data from Ubuntu 22.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge jemboss
Remove jemboss configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove jemboss configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge jemboss
