How To Install janus on Debian 12
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install janus
on Debian 12.
What is janus
janus is:
janus is a general purpose WebRTC server/gateway with a minimal footprint.
As such, it doesn’t provide any functionality per se other than implementing the means to set up a WebRTC media communication with a browser or application, exchanging JSON messages with it over different transports, and relaying RTP/RTCP and messages between clients and the server-side application logic they’re attached to. Any specific feature/application is provided by server side plugins, that browsers can then contact via the server to take advantage of the functionality they provide.
Example of such plugins can be implementations of applications like echo tests, conference bridges, media recorders, SIP gateways and the like.
There are three methods to install janus
on Debian 12. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install janus Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install janus
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install janus
Install janus Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install janus
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install janus
Install janus Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install janus
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install janus
How To Uninstall janus on Debian 12
To uninstall only the janus
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove janus
Uninstall janus And Its Dependencies
To uninstall janus
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 12, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove janus
Remove janus Configurations and Data
To remove janus
configuration and data from Debian 12 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge janus
Remove janus configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
