How To Install jack-stdio on Debian 9
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install jack-stdio
on Debian 9.
What is jack-stdio
jack-stdio is:
jack-stdout is a small tool that writes JACK audio-sample data to buffered standard output. jack-stdin reads raw audio data from standard input and writes it to a JACK audio port.
By default jack-stdout writes 16 bit signed integer raw audio data (much like mpg123 -s at JACK’s samplerate, but it can output signed/unsigned 8/16/24/32 bit integer and 32bit floating-point data, both big/little endian.
There are three methods to install jack-stdio
on Debian 9. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install jack-stdio Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install jack-stdio
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install jack-stdio

Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install jack-stdio
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install jack-stdio
Install jack-stdio Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install jack-stdio
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install jack-stdio
How To Uninstall jack-stdio on Debian 9
To uninstall only the jack-stdio
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove jack-stdio
Uninstall jack-stdio And Its Dependencies
To uninstall jack-stdio
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 9, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove jack-stdio
Remove jack-stdio Configurations and Data
To remove jack-stdio
configuration and data from Debian 9 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge jack-stdio
Remove jack-stdio configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove jack-stdio
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge jack-stdio
