How To Install iwd on Kali Linux
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install iwd on Kali Linux.
What is iwd
iwd is:
Minimalistic wireless daemon that uses modern Linux interfaces like cfg80211 and nl80211 (netlink). The daemon provides a D-Bus API.
The daemon can be controlled from the command line with the included iwctl client utility.
The included iwmon utility can be used to monitor the 802.11 subsystem generic netlink commands and events. It uses the nlmon kernel driver from Linux 3.10 and later.
Note that the package defaults to relying on dbus activation to start. If you want to use iwd standalone without any manager, then you’ll need to manually enable the system service.
There are three methods to install iwd on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install iwd Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get updateAfter updating apt database, We can install iwd using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install iwdInstall iwd Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt updateAfter updating apt database, We can install iwd using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install iwdInstall iwd Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude updateAfter updating apt database, We can install iwd using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install iwdHow To Uninstall iwd on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the iwd package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove iwdUninstall iwd And Its Dependencies
To uninstall iwd and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove iwdRemove iwd Configurations and Data
To remove iwd configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge iwdRemove iwd configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove iwd configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge iwdDependencies
