How To Install isatapd on Debian 11
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install isatapd
on Debian 11.
What is isatapd
isatapd is:
isatapd creates and maintains an ISATAP client tunnel (RFC 5214) in Linux.
It uses the in-kernel ISATAP support first introduced in linux-2.6.25. It does NOT operate the tunnel or handle any IPv6 traffic, it only sets up the tunnel parameters, the Potential Router List, sends periodic router solicitations and tries to detect link changes.
There are three methods to install isatapd
on Debian 11. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install isatapd Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install isatapd
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install isatapd

After updating apt database, We can install isatapd
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install isatapd
Install isatapd Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install isatapd
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install isatapd
How To Uninstall isatapd on Debian 11
To uninstall only the isatapd
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove isatapd
Uninstall isatapd And Its Dependencies
To uninstall isatapd
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 11, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove isatapd
Remove isatapd Configurations and Data
To remove isatapd
configuration and data from Debian 11 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge isatapd
