In this tutorial we learn how to install ironic-inspector on Debian 11.

What is ironic-inspector

ironic-inspector is:

This is an auxiliary service for discovering hardware properties for a node managed by OpenStack Ironic. Hardware introspection or hardware properties discovery is a process of getting hardware parameters required for scheduling from a bare metal node, given it’s power management credentials (e.g. IPMI address, user name and password).

A special discovery ramdisk is required to collect the information on a node. The default one can be built using diskimage-builder and ironic-inspector-ramdisk element.

This package contains the daemon.

There are three methods to install ironic-inspector on Debian 11. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install ironic-inspector Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install ironic-inspector using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install ironic-inspector

Install ironic-inspector Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install ironic-inspector using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install ironic-inspector

Install ironic-inspector Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install ironic-inspector using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install ironic-inspector

How To Uninstall ironic-inspector on Debian 11

To uninstall only the ironic-inspector package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove ironic-inspector

Uninstall ironic-inspector And Its Dependencies

To uninstall ironic-inspector and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 11, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove ironic-inspector

Remove ironic-inspector Configurations and Data

To remove ironic-inspector configuration and data from Debian 11 we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge ironic-inspector
