In this tutorial we learn how to install ironic-api on Debian 12.

What is ironic-api

ironic-api is:

Ironic provision bare metal machines instead of virtual machines. It is a fork of the Nova Baremetal driver. It is best thought of as a bare metal hypervisor API and a set of plugins which interact with the bare metal hypervisors. By default, it will use PXE and IPMI in concert to provision and turn on/off machines, but Ironic also supports vendor-specific plugins which may implement additional functionality.

This package provides the Ironic API server. The ironic-api service provides a RESTful API that supports JSON and XML.

There are three methods to install ironic-api on Debian 12. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install ironic-api Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install ironic-api using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install ironic-api

Install ironic-api Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install ironic-api using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install ironic-api

Install ironic-api Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install ironic-api using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install ironic-api

How To Uninstall ironic-api on Debian 12

To uninstall only the ironic-api package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove ironic-api

Uninstall ironic-api And Its Dependencies

To uninstall ironic-api and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 12, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove ironic-api

Remove ironic-api Configurations and Data

To remove ironic-api configuration and data from Debian 12 we can use the following command:
