How To Install iproute2 on Debian 9

What is iproute2
iproute2 is:
The iproute2 suite is a collection of utilities for networking and traffic control.
These tools communicate with the Linux kernel via the (rt)netlink interface, providing advanced features not available through the legacy net-tools commands ‘ifconfig’ and ‘route’.
There are three methods to install iproute2
on Debian 9. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install iproute2 Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install iproute2
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install iproute2

After updating apt database, We can install iproute2
using apt

sudo apt -y install iproute2
Install iproute2 Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude

sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install iproute2
using aptitude

sudo aptitude -y install iproute2
How To Uninstall iproute2 on Debian 9
To uninstall only the iproute2
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove iproute2
Uninstall iproute2 And Its Dependencies
To uninstall iproute2
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 9, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove iproute2
Remove iproute2 Configurations and Data
To remove iproute2
configuration and data from Debian 9 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge iproute2
Remove iproute2 configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
