In this tutorial we learn how to install ipa-client on CentOS 7.

What is ipa-client

IPA is an integrated solution to provide centrally managed Identity (users, hosts, services), Authentication (SSO, 2FA), and Authorization (host access control, SELinux user roles, services). The solution provides features for further integration with Linux based clients (SUDO, automount) and integration with Active Directory based infrastructures (Trusts). If your network uses IPA for authentication, this package should be installed on every client machine. This package provides command-line tools for IPA administrators.

We can use yum or dnf to install ipa-client on CentOS 7. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install ipa-client.

Install ipa-client on CentOS 7 Using yum

Update yum database with yum using the following command.

sudo yum makecache

After updating yum database, We can install ipa-client using yum by running the following command:

sudo yum -y install ipa-client

Install ipa-client on CentOS 7 Using dnf

If you don’t have dnf installed you can install DNF on CentOS 7 first. Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache

After updating yum database, We can install ipa-client using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install ipa-client

How To Uninstall ipa-client on CentOS 7

To uninstall only the ipa-client package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove ipa-client
