In this tutorial we learn how to install ignition-validate on CentOS 7.

What is ignition-validate

Ignition is a utility used to manipulate systems during the initramfs. This includes partitioning disks, formatting partitions, writing files (regular files, systemd units, networkd units, etc.), and configuring users. On first boot, Ignition reads its configuration from a source of truth (remote URL, network metadata service, hypervisor bridge, etc.) and applies the configuration. This package contains a tool for validating Ignition configurations.

We can use yum or dnf to install ignition-validate on CentOS 7. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install ignition-validate.

Install ignition-validate on CentOS 7 Using yum

Update yum database with yum using the following command.

sudo yum makecache

After updating yum database, We can install ignition-validate using yum by running the following command:

sudo yum -y install ignition-validate

Install ignition-validate on CentOS 7 Using dnf

If you don’t have dnf installed you can install DNF on CentOS 7 first. Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache

After updating yum database, We can install ignition-validate using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install ignition-validate

How To Uninstall ignition-validate on CentOS 7

To uninstall only the ignition-validate package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove ignition-validate
