How To Install icewm-lite on Debian 9

In this tutorial we learn how to install icewm-lite on Debian 9.
What is icewm-lite
icewm-lite is:
IceWm is a Window Manager for X Window System. It is fast and memory-efficient, and it provides many different looks including Windows'95, OS/2 Warp 3,4, Motif. It tries to take the best features of the above systems. Additional features include multiple workspaces, opaque move/resize, task bar, window list, mailbox status, digital clock.
This package provides a minimal icewm binary with no support for taskbar and antialiased fonts.
There are three methods to install icewm-lite on Debian 9. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install icewm-lite Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install icewm-lite using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install icewm-lite
Install icewm-lite Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install icewm-lite using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install icewm-lite
Install icewm-lite Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install icewm-lite using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install icewm-lite
How To Uninstall icewm-lite on Debian 9
To uninstall only the icewm-lite package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove icewm-lite
Uninstall icewm-lite And Its Dependencies
To uninstall icewm-lite and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 9, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove icewm-lite
Remove icewm-lite Configurations and Data
To remove icewm-lite configuration and data from Debian 9 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge icewm-lite
Remove icewm-lite configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove icewm-lite configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge icewm-lite
