What is `icedtea-web`

The IcedTea-Web project provides a Java web browser plugin, an implementation of Java Web Start (originally based on the Netx project) and a settings tool to manage deployment settings for the aforementioned plugin and Web Start implementations.

We can use yum or dnf to install icedtea-web on AlmaLinux 8. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install icedtea-web.

Install icedtea-web on AlmaLinux 8 Using dnf

Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache --refresh

After updating yum database, We can install icedtea-web using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install icedtea-web

Install icedtea-web on AlmaLinux 8 Using yum

Update yum database with yum using the following command.

sudo yum makecache --refresh

After updating yum database, We can install icedtea-web using yum by running the following command:

sudo yum -y install icedtea-web

How To Uninstall icedtea-web on AlmaLinux 8

To uninstall only the icedtea-web package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove icedtea-web
