What is ibverbs-providers

ibverbs-providers is:

libibverbs is a library that allows userspace processes to use RDMA “verbs” as described in the InfiniBand Architecture Specification and the RDMA Protocol Verbs Specification. iWARP ethernet NICs support RDMA over hardware-offloaded TCP/IP, while InfiniBand is a high-throughput, low-latency networking technology. InfiniBand host channel adapters (HCAs) and iWARP NICs commonly support direct hardware access from userspace (kernel bypass), and libibverbs supports this when available.

An RDMA driver consists of a kernel portion and a user space portion. This package contains the user space verbs drivers:

  • efa: Amazon Elastic Fabric Adapter
  • hfi1verbs: Intel Omni-Path HFI

There are three methods to install ibverbs-providers on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install ibverbs-providers using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install ibverbs-providers

How To Uninstall ibverbs-providers on Kali Linux

To uninstall only the ibverbs-providers package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove ibverbs-providers

Uninstall ibverbs-providers And Its Dependencies

To uninstall ibverbs-providers and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove ibverbs-providers

Remove ibverbs-providers Configurations and Data

To remove ibverbs-providers configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge ibverbs-providers

Remove ibverbs-providers configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove ibverbs-providers configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge ibverbs-providers
