How To Install ibus-rime on Debian 9
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install ibus-rime on Debian 9.
What is ibus-rime
ibus-rime is:
RIME is the acronym of Rime Input Method Engine.
RIME is a lightweight, extensible input method engine supporting various input schematas including glyph-based input methods, romanization-based input methods as well as those for Chinese dialects. It has the ability to compose phrases and sentences intelligently and provide very accurate traditional Chinese output. RIME’s cross-platform core library is written in C++, and can work consistently on different platforms with OS-specific wrappers.
This package provides the IBus frontend of RIME.
There are three methods to install ibus-rime on Debian 9. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install ibus-rime Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install ibus-rime using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install ibus-rime
Install ibus-rime Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install ibus-rime using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install ibus-rime
Install ibus-rime Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install ibus-rime using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install ibus-rime
How To Uninstall ibus-rime on Debian 9
To uninstall only the ibus-rime package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove ibus-rime
Uninstall ibus-rime And Its Dependencies
To uninstall ibus-rime and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 9, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove ibus-rime
Remove ibus-rime Configurations and Data
To remove ibus-rime configuration and data from Debian 9 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge ibus-rime
Remove ibus-rime configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove ibus-rime configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge ibus-rime
