What is ibus-keyman
ibus-keyman is:
Originally created in 1993 to type Lao on Windows, Keyman is now a free and open source keyboarding platform which allows anyone to write a keyboard layout for their language. Keyman is available for many platforms, including Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, Linux and the web.
Keyboard layouts are defined with a clear and easy to understand keyboard grammar. Keyman’s contextual input model means keyboard layouts can be intelligent and make it simple to type even the most complex languages. Keyboard layouts are distributed through an open catalog to all major desktop and mobile platforms.
IBus-keyman is a IM (input method) Engine for multiple languages, based on IBus.
This package provides the Keyman IM engine for IBus. With this module, you can use keyboard layouts designed for Keyman version 11 or earlier under the IBus platform.
There are three methods to install ibus-keyman
on Debian 10. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install ibus-keyman Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install ibus-keyman
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install ibus-keyman

Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install ibus-keyman
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install ibus-keyman
Install ibus-keyman Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install ibus-keyman
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install ibus-keyman
How To Uninstall ibus-keyman on Debian 10
To uninstall only the ibus-keyman
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove ibus-keyman
Uninstall ibus-keyman And Its Dependencies
To uninstall ibus-keyman
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 10, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove ibus-keyman
Remove ibus-keyman Configurations and Data
To remove ibus-keyman
configuration and data from Debian 10 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge ibus-keyman
