How To Install i3lock on Kali Linux
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install i3lock on Kali Linux.
What is i3lock
i3lock is:
i3lock is a simple screen locker like slock. After starting it, you will see a white screen (you can configure the color/an image). You can return to your screen by entering your password.
i3lock forks so you can combine it with an alias to suspend to RAM.
You can specify either a background color or a PNG image which will be displayed while your screen is locked.
You can specify whether i3lock should bell upon a wrong password.
i3lock uses PAM and therefore is compatible with LDAP etc.
There are three methods to install i3lock on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install i3lock Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get updateAfter updating apt database, We can install i3lock using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install i3lockInstall i3lock Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt updateAfter updating apt database, We can install i3lock using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install i3lockInstall i3lock Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude updateAfter updating apt database, We can install i3lock using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install i3lockHow To Uninstall i3lock on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the i3lock package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove i3lockUninstall i3lock And Its Dependencies
To uninstall i3lock and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove i3lockRemove i3lock Configurations and Data
To remove i3lock configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge i3lockRemove i3lock configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove i3lock configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge i3lockDependencies
