How To Install i3blocks on Kali Linux
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install i3blocks on Kali Linux.
What is i3blocks
i3blocks is:
Status line for the i3 window manager and i3bar that handles clicks, signals and language-agnostic user scripts.
The content of each block (e.g. time, battery status, network state, …) is the output of a command provided by the user. Blocks are updated on click, at a given interval of time or on a given signal, also specified by the user.
It aims to respect the i3bar protocol, providing customization such as text alignment, urgency, color, and more.
There are three methods to install i3blocks on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install i3blocks Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get updateAfter updating apt database, We can install i3blocks using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install i3blocksInstall i3blocks Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt updateAfter updating apt database, We can install i3blocks using apt by running the following command:

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

To uninstall only the i3blocks package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove i3blocksUninstall i3blocks And Its Dependencies
To uninstall i3blocks and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove i3blocksRemove i3blocks Configurations and Data
To remove i3blocks configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge i3blocksRemove i3blocks configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
