What is hsqldb-utils

hsqldb-utils is:

HSQLDB is an SQL relational database engine written in Java. It has a JDBC driver and supports a rich subset of SQL-92 (BNF tree format) plus SQL:2.29 and SQL:2.23 enhancements. It offers a small, fast database engine that offers both in-memory and disk-based tables. Embedded and server modes are available. Additionally, it includes tools such as a minimal web server, in-memory query and management tools (can be run as applets), and a number of demonstration examples.

This package contains some scripts to invoke the Utilities of HSQLDB (org.hsqldb.util.*):

  • hsqldb-databasemanager: DatabaseManager
  • hsqldb-databasemanagerswing: DatabaseManagerSwing
  • hsqldb-transfer: Transfer
  • hsqldb-sqltool: SqlTool

There are three methods to install hsqldb-utils on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install hsqldb-utils using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install hsqldb-utils

How To Uninstall hsqldb-utils on Ubuntu 18.04

To uninstall only the hsqldb-utils package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove hsqldb-utils

To uninstall hsqldb-utils and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove hsqldb-utils

To remove hsqldb-utils configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge hsqldb-utils

Remove hsqldb-utils configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove hsqldb-utils configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge hsqldb-utils
