What is hidrd

hidrd is:

The hidrd package is a library and collection of tools for parsing and generating HID report descriptors. It is an alternative to and in some ways an improvement over the official HID Descriptor Tool.

Native descriptor format is fully supported. An XML format is developed and supported for input and output. Specification example format is supported for output. Output to C source code with specification example format comments is supported. A tool called “hidrd-convert” is implemented and could be used to convert descriptors between formats.

There are three methods to install hidrd on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install hidrd Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install hidrd using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install hidrd

Install hidrd Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install hidrd using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install hidrd

Install hidrd Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
