In this tutorial we learn how to install healpix on CentOS 7.

What is healpix

HEALPix is an acronym for Hierarchical Equal Area isoLatitude Pixelization of a sphere. As suggested in the name, this pixelization produces a subdivision of a spherical surface in which each pixel covers the same surface area as every other pixel. This package contains Fortran binaries and libraries. NB. Due to some generic names, the binaries have been renamed to start with hp_, e.g. anafast is now hp_anafast.

We can use yum or dnf to install healpix on CentOS 7. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install healpix.

Install healpix on CentOS 7 Using yum

Update yum database with yum using the following command.

sudo yum makecache

After updating yum database, We can install healpix using yum by running the following command:

sudo yum -y install healpix

Install healpix on CentOS 7 Using dnf

If you don’t have dnf installed you can install DNF on CentOS 7 first. Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache

After updating yum database, We can install healpix using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install healpix

How To Uninstall healpix on CentOS 7

To uninstall only the healpix package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove healpix
