What is hdf5

HDF5 is a general purpose library and file format for storing scientific data. HDF5 can store two primary objects groups. A dataset is essentially a multidimensional array of data elements, and a group is a structure for organizing objects in an HDF5 file. Using these two basic objects, one can create and store almost any kind of scientific data structure, such as images, arrays of vectors, and structured and unstructured grids. You can also mix and match them in HDF5 files according to your needs.

We can use yum or dnf to install hdf5 on CentOS 7. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install hdf5.

Install hdf5 on CentOS 7 Using yum

Update yum database with yum using the following command.

sudo yum makecache

After updating yum database, We can install hdf5 using yum by running the following command:

sudo yum -y install hdf5

Install hdf5 on CentOS 7 Using dnf

If you don’t have dnf installed you can install DNF on CentOS 7 first. Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache

After updating yum database, We can install hdf5 using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install hdf5

How To Uninstall hdf5 on CentOS 7

To uninstall only the hdf5 package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove hdf5
