In this tutorial we learn how to install hashcat on AlmaLinux 8.
What is hashcat
Hashcat is the world’s fastest and most advanced password recovery utility, supporting five unique modes of attack for over 200 highly-optimized hashing algorithms. hashcat currently supports CPUs, GPUs, and other hardware accelerators on Linux, Windows, and Mac OS, and has facilities to help enable distributed password cracking.
We can use yum or dnf to install hashcat on AlmaLinux 8. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install hashcat.
Install hashcat on AlmaLinux 8 Using dnf
Update yum database with dnf using the following command.
sudo dnf makecache --refresh
After updating yum database, We can install hashcat using dnf by running the following command:
sudo dnf -y install hashcat
Install hashcat on AlmaLinux 8 Using yum
Update yum database with yum using the following command.
sudo yum makecache --refresh
After updating yum database, We can install hashcat using yum by running the following command:
sudo yum -y install hashcat
How To Uninstall hashcat on AlmaLinux 8
To uninstall only the hashcat package we can use the following command:
sudo dnf remove hashcat
