How To Install hackrf on Ubuntu 20.04
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install hackrf on Ubuntu 20.04.
What is hackrf
hackrf is:
HackRF is an open source Software Defined Radio that can receive and transmit between 30 MHz and 6 GHz. HackRF has a 20 MHz bandwidth. It is a High Speed USB device powered by the USB bus.
This package contains a set of command line utilities:
- hackrf_cpldjtag: program CLPD
- hackrf_info: probe device and show configuration
- hackrf_max2837: chip register read/write tool
- hackrf_rffc5071: chip register read/write tool
- hackrf_si5351c: chip register read/write tool
- hackrf_spiflash: read and write flash data from file.
- hackrf_transfer: file based transmit and receive sdr
There are three methods to install hackrf on Ubuntu 20.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install hackrf Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install hackrf using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install hackrf
Install hackrf Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install hackrf using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install hackrf
Install hackrf Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install hackrf using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install hackrf
How To Uninstall hackrf on Ubuntu 20.04
To uninstall only the hackrf package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove hackrf
Uninstall hackrf And Its Dependencies
To uninstall hackrf and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 20.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove hackrf
Remove hackrf Configurations and Data
To remove hackrf configuration and data from Ubuntu 20.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge hackrf
Remove hackrf configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove hackrf configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge hackrf
