How To Install gvfs-bin on Kali Linux

Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install gvfs-bin on Kali Linux.

What is gvfs-bin

gvfs-bin is:

gvfs is a userspace virtual filesystem where mounts run as separate processes which you talk to via D-Bus. It also contains a gio module that seamlessly adds gvfs support to all applications using the gio API. It also supports exposing the gvfs mounts to non-gio applications using fuse.

This package contains deprecated command-line tools such as gvfs-copy and gvfs-rename. Please use the gio(1) tool in the libglib2.0-bin package instead.

There are three methods to install gvfs-bin on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install gvfs-bin Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install gvfs-bin using apt-get by running the following command:

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install gvfs-bin using apt by running the following command:

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

After updating apt database, We can install gvfs-bin using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install gvfs-bin

How To Uninstall gvfs-bin on Kali Linux

To uninstall only the gvfs-bin package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove gvfs-bin

To uninstall gvfs-bin and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove gvfs-bin

sudo apt-get -y purge gvfs-bin
