How To Install guake-indicator on Debian 11

In this tutorial we learn how to install guake-indicator
on Debian 11.
What is guake-indicator
guake-indicator is:
Guake indicator lets you send custom commands through the D-Bus System. Commands can be manually edited in a XML file under ~/.guake.indicator or generated through guake-indicator edit-menu system GUI.
Guake-indicator sticks to your “System Tray” and displays your favorites commands retrieved from ~/.guake.indicator/guake-indicator.xml. If guake-indicator.xml does not exist, guake-indicator will create a default configuration file with some examples.
There are three methods to install guake-indicator
on Debian 11. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install guake-indicator Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install guake-indicator
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install guake-indicator
Install guake-indicator Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install guake-indicator
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install guake-indicator
Install guake-indicator Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install guake-indicator
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install guake-indicator
How To Uninstall guake-indicator on Debian 11
To uninstall only the guake-indicator
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove guake-indicator
Uninstall guake-indicator And Its Dependencies
To uninstall guake-indicator
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 11, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove guake-indicator
Remove guake-indicator Configurations and Data
To remove guake-indicator
configuration and data from Debian 11 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge guake-indicator
Remove guake-indicator configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove guake-indicator
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge guake-indicator
