How To Install gtk2-engines on Kali Linux

In this tutorial we learn how to install gtk2-engines
on Kali Linux.
What is gtk2-engines
gtk2-engines is:
This package contains the “engines” that hide behind the themes for GTK+ and GNOME applications. They redefine the way GTK+ widgets are drawn. The package includes the following engines:
- Clearlooks, the default GNOME theme, based on Bluecurve;
- Crux, formerly known as the Eazel engine;
- High contrast, which is used by some accessibility themes;
- Industrial, the famous engine from Novell (formerly Ximian);
- LighthouseBlue, another engine based on Bluecurve;
- Metal, which gives a metallic look;
- Mist, a flat and high performance engine;
- Redmond95, which provides a look similar to that of Windows;
- ThinIce.
A few sample themes using these engines are also included.
There are three methods to install gtk2-engines
on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install gtk2-engines Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install gtk2-engines
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install gtk2-engines

Update apt database with apt

After updating apt database, We can install gtk2-engines

by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install gtk2-engines
Install gtk2-engines Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install gtk2-engines
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install gtk2-engines
How To Uninstall gtk2-engines on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the gtk2-engines
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove gtk2-engines
Uninstall gtk2-engines And Its Dependencies
To uninstall gtk2-engines
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove gtk2-engines
Remove gtk2-engines Configurations and Data
To remove gtk2-engines
configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge gtk2-engines
Remove gtk2-engines configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove gtk2-engines

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge gtk2-engines
