How To Install gstreamer1.0-vaapi on Kali Linux

In this tutorial we learn how to install gstreamer1.0-vaapi on Kali Linux.
What is gstreamer1.0-vaapi
gstreamer1.0-vaapi is:
Gstreamer-vaapi is a collection of GStreamer plugins and helper libraries that allow hardware accelerated video decoding, encoding and processing through VA-API.
This package contains GStreamer plugins for VA-API support:
- `vaapiconvert’: converts from YUV pixels to VA surfaces
- `vaapisink’: a VA-API based video sink
There are three methods to install gstreamer1.0-vaapi on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install gstreamer1.0-vaapi Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get updateAfter updating apt database, We can install gstreamer1.0-vaapi using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install gstreamer1.0-vaapiInstall gstreamer1.0-vaapi Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt updateAfter updating apt database, We can install gstreamer1.0-vaapi using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install gstreamer1.0-vaapiInstall gstreamer1.0-vaapi Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude updateAfter updating apt database, We can install gstreamer1.0-vaapi using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install gstreamer1.0-vaapiHow To Uninstall gstreamer1.0-vaapi on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the gstreamer1.0-vaapi package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove gstreamer1.0-vaapiUninstall gstreamer1.0-vaapi And Its Dependencies
To uninstall gstreamer1.0-vaapi and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:

To remove gstreamer1.0-vaapi configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge gstreamer1.0-vaapiRemove gstreamer1.0-vaapi configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
