What is gstreamer-tools

GStreamer is a streaming media framework, based on graphs of filters which operate on media data. Applications using this library can do anything from real-time sound processing to playing videos, and just about anything else media-related. Its plugin-based architecture means that new data types or processing capabilities can be added simply by installing new plugins. This package contains wrapper scripts for the command-line tools that work with different major/minor versions of GStreamer.

We can use yum or dnf to install gstreamer-tools on CentOS 7. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install gstreamer-tools.

Install gstreamer-tools on CentOS 7 Using yum

Update yum database with yum using the following command.

sudo yum makecache

After updating yum database, We can install gstreamer-tools using yum by running the following command:

sudo yum -y install gstreamer-tools

Install gstreamer-tools on CentOS 7 Using dnf

If you don’t have dnf installed you can install DNF on CentOS 7 first. Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache

After updating yum database, We can install gstreamer-tools using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install gstreamer-tools

How To Uninstall gstreamer-tools on CentOS 7

To uninstall only the gstreamer-tools package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove gstreamer-tools
