How To Install grub-coreboot on Ubuntu 18.04

In this tutorial we learn how to install grub-coreboot on Ubuntu 18.04.
What is grub-coreboot
grub-coreboot is:
GRUB is a portable, powerful bootloader. This version of GRUB is based on a cleaner design than its predecessors, and provides the following new features:
- Scripting in grub.cfg using BASH-like syntax.
- Support for modern partition maps such as GPT.
- Modular generation of grub.cfg via update-grub. Packages providing GRUB add-ons can plug in their own script rules and trigger updates by invoking update-grub.
This package contains a version of GRUB that has been built for use with platforms running the Coreboot firmware.
There are three methods to install grub-coreboot on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install grub-coreboot Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install grub-coreboot using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install grub-coreboot
Install grub-coreboot Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install grub-coreboot using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install grub-coreboot
Install grub-coreboot Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install grub-coreboot using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install grub-coreboot
How To Uninstall grub-coreboot on Ubuntu 18.04
To uninstall only the grub-coreboot package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove grub-coreboot
Uninstall grub-coreboot And Its Dependencies
To uninstall grub-coreboot and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove grub-coreboot
Remove grub-coreboot Configurations and Data
To remove grub-coreboot configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge grub-coreboot
Remove grub-coreboot configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove grub-coreboot configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge grub-coreboot
